Investigating the involvement of Piezo1 in vascular remodeling associated with cerebral small vessel disease
Pharmacology & Toxicology
Elien is born in Belgium and holds a master’s degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, specialization in Molecular Physiology, from KU Leuven (2023). During her Master’s internship, she studied the role of adult social isolation investigating behavior, brain activity and inflammation in mice. She started as a PhD student in September 2023 at the Center for Molecular and Vascular Biology department (Leuven) and continued her work at Pharmacology and Toxicology (Maastricht) in September 2025. With her PhD, she aims to investigate the mechanical regulation of Piezo1 and Notch in the remodeling of arterioles in a hypertensive mouse model.
