Stravoula Oikonomou

Post-doctoral fellow

The Role of DNA Repair in Obesity and in Development of Cardiometabolic Disease

About Info

Stavroula graduated in 2015 with a BSc in Animal Sciences from the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece. She then completed a master’s in Research Methodology in Biomedicine, Biostatistics, and Clinical Bioinformatics at the University of Thessaly. In December 2021, she was awarded a PhD in Quantitative Genetics and Bioinformatics from the Department of Biology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During her PhD, she contributed to research programs funded by the European Union and the Greek government, working as a Research Associate at the International Hellenic University. She later continued her research as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Research Fellow at the International Hellenic University, University of Patras, and ELKETHE, participating in projects supported by the European Union, the Greek government, and private companies. Additionally, she spent six months as a Researcher at the Hellenic Agricultural Organization 'DIMITRA'. Her main field of expertise is genomics, with a strong focus on advanced statistical methods such as logistic and linear regression, Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), and Reaction Norms. Currently, at Maastricht University, she works as a Postdoctoral Researcher, analyzing genomic and epigenomic data to investigate the role of DNA repair genes in the development of cardiometabolic diseases and the association of the DNA repair genes with obesity.
