We are proud to highlight the achievements of our colleagues over the past summer.

Vaios Fytsilis received the Alfonso Lostia Early Career Award for Best Poster on Food Safety at EUROTOX Congress 2025, in Athens. Vaios’ research focuses on protein-induced health effects and also touches upon the presence of chemical contaminants in foods. His main objective is to develop risk assessment strategies for novel and GMO-derived proteins, based entirely on non-animal methods.

Milou Hendriks was awarded a travel grant to attend the SRNT-E conference in Cluj-Napoca, with the opportunity to present her work on the effect of cigarette type and smoking behavior on urinary metabolite levels of tobacco-associated toxicants. Her research focuses on investigating whether nicotine present in oral and nasal cavities can activate the brain’s reward system and how different nicotine concentrations in these areas can influence smoking behavior.
