Wisenave defends PhD on advancing breathomics for clinical application
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Wisenave Arulvasan successfully defended her PhD thesis on May 29th, 2026, entitled "Developing Breathomics for Clinical Application: Robust Identification, Quantification and Capture of Exhaled VOCS", under the supervision of Frederik-Jan van Schooten and co supervision of Agnieszka Smolinska.
Her research focused on advancing breathomics, the study of volatile organic compounds in exhaled breath, as a reliable and non-invasive tool for disease detection. In her thesis, Wisenave developed standardized workflows for identifying and quantifying breath compounds, while also investigating the influence of biological and lifestyle factors on breath profiles and improving breath sampling techniques.
The findings contribute to a more robust and clinically applicable approach to breath analysis, bringing the field a step closer to developing accurate breath-based diagnostic tests that could enable earlier disease detection and improve patient care.
Congratulations Wisenave on this achievement!
