Ellis Gommans studied medicine at Maastricht University. She graduated in 2012 and started working as physician in geriatric medicine. Until 2019 she followed a trajectory to become both clinical geriatrician and clinical pharmacologist. She has special interest in the patient with polypharmacy and in psychopharmacology and anticoagulant medication. In this last category of interest she did research with the focus on the very elderly patient using direct oral anticoagulants. Since very old people are excluded in most registration trials, the study data need to be interpreted with gerontopharmacological expertise.

Since 2019 she is working as clinical geriatrician and clinical pharmacologist in the Anna hospital in Geldrop.

Since 2021 she started working also at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Maastricht University where she is involved in teaching within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences.
