Charlotte Pauwels was born on April 6th 1990 in Duffel, Belgium. In 2008, she started her study Biomedical Sciences at the Radboud University, Nijmegen, followed by the masters Toxicology and Pathobiology. After graduation in 2014, she started as a PhD-student at Maastricht University with the project entitled ‘Topography of smoking and smoke components exposure as assessed by biomarkers in human smoking trials’, in collaboration with the RIVM.
